Welcome to our website

Some of our members - (L - R) Sylvia Hand, Guy Blythman, Wendy Hughes, Sid Brittin, Pat Jones and Johnston Simpson.

Walton Wordsmiths is a lively, diverse, and friendly prose writing group. Founded in 1999 by Wendy Hughes, the group is small, with just eight members at the moment, but it aims to offer help and support to writers of all capabilities.

Fortnightly meetings are held on Friday mornings 10.30am - 12.30pm  at St John's Church Hall, The Furrows, off Ambleside Avenue, Walton on Thames in Surrey. (See map)

The year is divided into three terms and a fee of £18 per term is payable, to cover hire of the hall, printing, speaker fees, etc. Additional meetings for those working on longer pieces of work are held at Wendy's house.

Fortnightly meetings are geared very much to members' requirements and members who wish to discuss particular writing related subjects are asked to let Wendy know well in advance so it can be included in the next term's programme.  Meetings will roughly follow the format below, although we are very flexible and will accommodate member's needs as they arise:

Sharing of news - competitions, new markets, new publishers, etc. Wendy also produces a newssheet of up to date information for each meeting.

Short tutorial or writing exercise on a given theme, together with 10-15 minutes writing time.

Readings - these are an important part of our meetings, and we invite all members to bring along something to read.
